Misenheimer, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball opened the USA South Conference Championship Series against nationally-ranked Pfeiffer on Friday afternoon, falling 14-0 in five innings in game one at Jack Ingram Field.
The Battling Bishops faced an early challenge as Pfeiffer scored three runs in the opening inning before erupting for 10 runs in the second to take control of the contest. Despite the deficit, Wesleyan continued to battle throughout the game and looked to generate offense against a deep Pfeiffer pitching staff.
Brooke Markiewicz recorded Wesleyan's lone hit of the game with a double in the first inning, while Kyiah Simmons, Aleah Jones, Lexi Howerton, Caleigh Warf, and Ramzie Bryant all reached base as the Bishops drew five walks in the contest.
In the circle, Kendall Wallace got the start before Jaden Clark and Addyson Romanczyk combined in relief. Romanczyk settled things down late, allowing just one run over the final 2.1 innings.
Although the result was not the outcome Wesleyan hoped for, the Battling Bishops remained alive in the championship series and looked to regroup heading into the next matchup against Pfeiffer.
