Lynchburg, VA. — The North Carolina Wesleyan University women's soccer team battled Randolph College to a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. The Battling Bishops moved to 0-0-1 overall with the result.
North Carolina Wesleyan struck first in the 23rd minute. Makena Meyer found the back of the net at the 22:30 mark, with Jordan Fernandez providing the assist, to give the Bishops an early 1-0 advantage. The official game file currently credits the goal to Samantha Fore, but the scoring correction is Meyer from Fernandez.
The Bishops continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, recording nine shots before halftime. Nicole Goodwin put two attempts on frame, while Meyer and Fernandez also tested Randolph goalkeeper Kacie Walker.
Randolph evened the match just before the halftime whistle as Jackelin Martinez scored at the 45:00 mark, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
The WildCats generated more pressure in the second half, but goalkeeper Grace Walls helped keep the Bishops level. Walls finished the night with 11 saves while allowing just one goal across the full 90 minutes. Randolph finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots and a 12-7 edge in shots on goal.
Neither side was able to break through again down the stretch, as North Carolina Wesleyan secured a 1-1 draw and moved to 0-0-1 on the season.
