Salem, VA. — North Carolina Wesleyan opened the final day of the Roanoke Classic in dominant fashion Saturday morning, sweeping Randolph College 3-0 at the Cregger Center for its third win of the season.
The Battling Bishops controlled the match from the start, taking the opening set 25-16 behind an efficient offensive performance. Wesleyan hit .355 in the first frame with 15 kills before battling through a tighter second set and coming away with a 25-23 victory. The Bishops carried the momentum into the third, closing out the sweep with a 25-19 win.
Ashley Hinton and Kendall Gleason led the Wesleyan attack with 12 kills apiece. Gleason was especially efficient, hitting .409 on 22 attempts, while Hinton hit .233 and added two service aces. Brooklynn Covic contributed seven kills, Savannah Banks finished with six and Sadie Schramm added four kills while hitting .429.
Emilee Wilson directed a balanced offensive effort with 40 assists as the Bishops totaled 46 kills and hit .243 as a team. Wesleyan also finished with eight service aces while holding Randolph to a .155 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Jadyn Smith led the way with 16 digs, while Chloe Baggett added 12 and Hinton finished with nine. The Bishops totaled 63 digs and limited Randolph to just 30 kills across the three sets.
With the victory, North Carolina Wesleyan improved to 3-5 overall and entered its second and final match of the Roanoke Classic looking to close the weekend on a strong note.
