Demorest, GA. — The North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team put together a complete performance on Sunday afternoon, scoring three times while shutting out Huntingdon College, 3-0, at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The Battling Bishops broke through in the 25th minute when Samantha Fore found the back of the net to give NC Wesleyan a 1-0 advantage. The goal highlighted a strong opening half for Wesleyan, while goalkeeper Grace Walls helped preserve the lead with three first-half saves.
NC Wesleyan wasted little time adding to its lead after halftime. Just 1:04 into the second half, Fore struck again, this time off an assist from Jordan Fernandez, to extend the advantage to 2-0. Less than a minute later, Fernandez found the back of the net herself at the 46:51 mark, giving the Bishops two goals in a span of just 47 seconds and pushing the lead to 3-0.
The Bishops continued to generate opportunities throughout the second half, recording nine shots after the break. Maison Berrios, Fernandez and Makena Meyer each placed additional attempts on goal as NC Wesleyan maintained pressure on the Huntingdon defense.
Fore led the NC Wesleyan attack with two goals on five shots, while Fernandez finished with a goal and an assist. Walls turned in a strong performance in goal, playing all 90 minutes and recording five saves to secure the shutout.
NC Wesleyan finished with 14 shots, including seven on goal, and earned five corner kicks. The Bishops' defense held Huntingdon scoreless despite 15 total shots, completing the 3-0 shutout victory.
