Bishops Open 2026 Season with 3-1 Win Over Randolph-Macon

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The North Carolina Wesleyan University men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday evening at Scalf Field. The Bishops used a late first-half goal and two second-half scores to secure the season-opening win and move to 1-0 on the year.

N.C. Wesleyan broke through in the 42nd minute when Edras Turcios Valle found the back of the net off an assist from Harry Coggins, giving the Bishops a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. Randolph-Macon answered in the 69th minute as Davian Jackson scored to even the match at 1-1.

The Bishops quickly regained control just over three minutes later. Lucas Andres Monrabal scored in the 72nd minute off an assist from Gareth Siemers to put N.C. Wesleyan back in front, 2-1. Andres Monrabal struck again in the 80th minute, once again assisted by Siemers, to extend the Bishops' lead to 3-1 and complete the scoring.

Andres Monrabal led the N.C. Wesleyan attack with two goals on two shots, while Turcios Valle added one goal. Siemers recorded two assists, while Coggins added one. The Bishops finished with six total shots, placing three on goal.

In goal, Elliot Helander played all 90 minutes for N.C. Wesleyan and recorded three saves while allowing just one goal. Randolph-Macon finished the match with nine shots, including four on goal, while also holding a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The victory gives N.C. Wesleyan a 1-0 start to the 2026 campaign.
