Entering his first season as the Battling Bishop's defensive coordinator, Matt Adolph comes to NCWU with a plethora of experience from every level of football from high school to the NFL.  Learning from some of the best minds in football, Adolph worked under College Football Hall of Fame's Mark Dantonio. Dantonio is one of only 5 coaches in history to have reached such heights. During his time there the Spartan's won a Big Ten Championship, a College Football Playoff berth, and one of the nation's best defenses.

Most recently, Adolph has also worked under Michigan Wolverines Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. While assisting the Defense Backs last season as a defensive analyst at the University of Michigan, Adolph was a part in the program earning its 12th National Championship and first in the College Football Playoff era.

In adding to Championship teams he's been a part of, Matthew was fortunate to be a part of Thomas Hammock's Northern Illinois Huskies that experienced one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college football, going from a winless 2020 season to a 9-5 record, claiming the MAC West Division, MAC Championship, and earning a spot in the Cure Bowl.
Before arriving to Illinois, Adolph was the Outside Linebackers/Special Teams Coordinator at Morehead State. During that season the team had the best in their history.

Prior to this, Adolph coached two full seasons at Santa Barbara (Calif.) City College, where he led the defense and special teams. In 2018, the SBCC Vaquero defense led the conference in a variety of stats including fumbles, pass defense, and red zone defense. The 2018 Vaquero special teams produced two touchdowns and six fumbles. In 2019, the Vaqueros were the state leaders in multiple categories, including fewest penalties, kick return stats and punting average.

Adolph was a former all-academic performer and a long snapper in Kentucky with NFL coaching experience, Matt Adolph has held a variety of successful coaching positions. He is originally from Columbus, Ohio. Adolph earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Kentucky.
