Robert Wilson

North Carolina Wesleyan Men’s Basketball Coach John Thompson has named former Bishop standout Robert Wilson ’19, Assistant Coach. Wilson, was previously the boys basketball coach at Rocky Mount Middle School and has been training players through his Wilson Development League.

“I am thrilled to have Rob join our staff. He is a perfect fit. He has been family for a long time and he is an excellent example of what Wesleyan Basketball and our University is all about. Our team will benefit greatly from having him here every day. He is a teacher, which is what coaching is all about,” commented Coach Thompson.

When asked about coming back to his alma mater Wilson stated, “It’s an honor and a privilege to return to North Carolina Wesleyan University. I am excited to grow professionally and to help develop current and future Bishops.”

Wilson was selected to the USA South All-Conference teams as a junior and a senior in 2018 and 2019. He was also an All-Academic Team selection in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Notably, he was a part of three USA South Regular season Championships in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Always a consistent and steady force for the Bishops, Wilson was always a team leader. Thompson added, “Robert was such an outstanding worker and role model when he was a player here. He can now share so much of what he has leaned, and I couldn’t be happier for everyone that he is going to influence.”
