Mark Bowman enters his fifth year as Head Men's Soccer Coach at North Carolina Wesleyan University. Since taking over the program, Bowman has built the Battling Bishops into a consistent USA South contender, highlighted by two Regular Season Championships (2022, 2024), a Tournament Championship (2025), two USA South Coach of the Year honors, and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.
2022: 9-7-1 overall, 6-1 conference — USA South Regular Season Champions; Bowman named USA South Coach of the Year.
2023: 9-6-4 overall — USA South Championship Match appearance.
2024: 9-4-4 overall — USA South Regular Season Champions; Bowman named USA South Coach of the Year.
2025: 9-9-2 overall — USA South Conference Tournament Champions; NCAA Tournament appearance; program posted a school-record 3.49 team GPA.
Prior to NC Wesleyan, Bowman spent three seasons (2018-19, Spring 2021) as Recruiting Coordinator and Goalkeepers Coach at Div. III Randolph College (Va.), where he helped improve the program's win percentage, retention rate, and team GPA. He also served as Assistant Coach at Div. II University of Mount Olive in 2020, including a brief stint as Interim Head Coach, and led Appomattox County High School (Va.) to a state semifinal appearance as Head Coach from 2018-2020.
Bowman's coaching career began in 2012 as Head Coach of the U-17 team at F.C. Lion of Timbi Madina in Guinea, West Africa, where he also coached goalkeepers for the men's team. He later spent time on staff at Liberty University, first as a student manager (2013-2015) building the program's stats and analytics infrastructure, then as a volunteer assistant (2016). Bowman played collegiately at the University of Valley Forge (2009-2010) before coaching goalkeepers there for two seasons.
Raised in Morocco, Bowman brings a multicultural perspective shaped by more than 15 years abroad, and is fluent in English, French, and Arabic, and working on his proficiency in Spanish.
Bowman holds a USSF D-License, FA Wales C-Certificate, and United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeper 2 Diploma. He and his wife, Rachel, live in Rocky Mount, N.C., with their three daughters.
