Box Score

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team thrilled the sold-out home crowd with an exhilarating come-from-behind overtime victory over visiting conference foe Pfeiffer University (N.C.) 128-123 on Saturday afternoon for their 5th straight win. Wesleyan also set a school record for most points scored in a game breaking the old mark of 127 set in 2015 vs. Mid-Atlantic Christian.

The Bishops used balanced scoring throughout the game including double-digit points from six different players to keep pace with the hot-shooting Falcons. Each team would make 15 three-pointers in the game while Wesleyan took over late outscoring Pfeiffer 15-10 in the extra period.

Wesleyan rallied back from a 3-point deficit late in regulation to take a 113-111 lead with 10 seconds to go as a steal from A.J. Frye led to a layup from Damon McDowell. Pfeiffer then scored a layup to force overtime at 113 all.

The Bishops shot an impressive and season-high 60 percent in the game including 45 percent from three and 11 of 15 from the free-throw line while Pfeiffer shot nearly 38 percent for the game and 37 percent from three. Neither team ever led by more than 6 points throughout the game while both squads scored over 60 points each in the second half after Wesleyan led by just two, 51-49, at the break.

Senior forward Robert Wilson led the Bishops with 28 points on 6 of 9 shooting from three along with 8 rebounds before fouling out of the game with 2 minutes to play. Senior point guard Chris Braswell also had a stellar game scoring 19 points on 5 of 10 shooting from three along with a season-high and team-best 8 assists, 7 rebounds, a steal and a block. Frye then recorded another double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds with 7 assists and a steal.

McDowell and junior forward Ricardo Bullock each scored 15 points in the win with Bullock also adding 6 boards, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Sophomore guard Josh Covington also finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists while senior guard Justin Tankelewicz made three clutch three-pointers as well for his 9 points and 3 assists.

The Bishops improve to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in the USA South as they remain in first place in the East Division while Pfeiffer falls to 8-8 and 3-6 in conference.

The men are back in action on Friday when they travel to play West Division foe Maryville College (TN) at 7:30 PM in Tennessee.
