Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan football pummeled Southern Virginia 34-7 for the third straight conference win in a row. The game was highlighted by freshman kicker
Braxtyn Green breaking the school record with a 51 yard field goal to close out the first half. The Battling Bishop defense was able to stuff a solid Southern Virginia offense without a single point up until the final minute of the game, disguising blitzes and dropping back into nickel coverage.
Confused by the Wesleyan pressures all game long, SVU's starting quarterback was held to under 100 yards passing on twelve completions. Without the long touchdown pass to end the game, the Knight offense was held to nearly 200 total yards thanks to
Eric Cooper and Issac Evans' sixteen total tackles on the afternoon. The Bishops would also have a season high four sacks, wreaking havoc in the backfield.Â
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bishop offense would come to life, finally finishing a quality drive with a twenty-seven yard touchdown pass from
Zachary Marquis. In the second half, the offense would score twenty-four unanswered points, with all three touchdowns on the ground.
Anthony Byrd would find pay dirt twice, continuing to dominate after the setting the school single game rushing record at LaGrange a few weeks back.
Freshman
Christian Drumgoole would put up one of the best performances ever seen by a freshman at Vernon T. Bradley Jr. Stadium with seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. In his rookie campaign, Drumgoole inches closer to setting the school's single season receiving record.
