Football Falls to LaGrange, 31-9, Despite Strong Day from Green and Drumgoole

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan football team dropped a 31-9 decision to LaGrange at home on Saturday, despite impressive individual performances from kicker Braxtyn Green and wide receiver Christian Drumgoole.

Wesleyan started strong, scoring on their first two drives with field goals from Green, who connected from 24 and 31 yards to give the Bishops a lead out the shoot. However, LaGrange responded quickly as quarterback Henry Brodnax hit Jasharie Anderson for a 68-yard touchdown, putting the Panthers ahead 7-3.

LaGrange would go on to extend the lead to 10-6 early in the second quarter with a 32-yard field goal by Landon Eaker. As the half wound down, LaGrange orchestrated a 10-play, 68-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Goldman Butler VI as time expired, giving the Panthers a huge momentum shift and a double-digit lead headed into the break.

In the second half, Green drilled his third field goal of the day, a 33-yarder, accounting for all of Wesleyan's points and finishing a perfect 3-for-3 on the day. Despite his effort, Wesleyan struggled to contain LaGrange's balanced attack. Butler continued his dominant performance, rushing for two more touchdowns in the second half and finishing with 125 yards on the ground.

Battling Bishop wide receiver Christian Drumgoole was a bright spot for the Wesleyan offense, putting up an eye-popping 239 receiving yards, accounting for all but 56 of NCWU's recieving yards.
