Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball program hosted former USA South rival LaGrange to Bauer Field for a DH on Sunday. Going 1-1 and earning a split, both games would be concluded before the 9th by way of the run rule.
Game 1:
LaGrange 17, North Carolina Wesleyan 4 (8 Innings)
Getting off to a rocky start, the Battling Bishops allowed three first inning runs out the gate, but would respond with four runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 4-3 lead by way of doubles by
Davie Morgan,
Tyson Bass, and
Alex Moskal. Unable to get any momentum with runners on base for the rest of the contest, Wesleyan would allow fourteen straight Panther runs in the defeat.
Game 2:Â
North Carolina Wesleyan 13, LaGrange 3 (7 Innings)
Responding with a vengeance,
Cord Butler brought life back into the Bishop dugout by tossing another gem for his fourth win of non-conference play. Throwing 5.2 innings, Butler would only allow three runs while striking out ten of the twenty-two Panthers faced. On the offensive side of the ball, the ball was flying out of the park on the windy Sunday afternoon.
Jackson Hobbs and
Colin Scoggins would knock back-to-back homers out the park in the 3rd and 4th innings, contributing to each of their three RBIÂ afternoons.Â
The hit parade kept chugging along in the 5th as
Javier Quintana and
Jaiden Barker launched moonshots to left field and were followed by a
Tyson Bass RBI rocket that sent home
Drifton Padgett and
Maison Nance. Padgett would later join the party in the 6th with a single up the middle for his first RBI of the 2024 season.
