Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team completed the sweep of Pfeiffer on Saturday to improve to 3-0 in league play. In the final game of the series, the Bishops would have an incredible come from behind win which saw a three run rally with one out remaining in the bottom frame of the 9th.
Game 2:Â
N.C. Wesleyan 13, Pfeiffer 5
With the bats coming alive,
Jaiden Barker would get the afternoon started with a bomb to left center to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Bishops in the second inning. With another pair coming in the third,
Tyson Bass would score the third run of the game before Jackon Hobbs would bring in
Drifton Padgett thanks to a sac-fly. Pounding the Falcons in the 5th, both
Davie Morgan and
Javier Quintana would single to bring home a total of four runs to bust the game open.
The offensive onslaught would continue in the 6th with
Javier Quintana blasting a two-run blast that scored
Jackson Hobbs after Hobbs would get a two rbi-single to his credit. The 7th would see a mammoth blast to left by
Tyson Bass, which landed on Scalf Field for Wesleyan's final run.
Cord Butler improved to 5-0 on the mound, tossing six innings of work, striking out six Falcons and only allowing four hits and two runs.
Chandler Padgett would get the ball to finish off a series win, only allowing one hit over the course of three innings.
Game 3:
N.C. Wesleyan 7, Pfeiffer 6
Going for the sweep,
Tyson Bass blasted his third bomb of the weekend in the first to get Wesleyan out to an early 1-0 advantage. Seeing zeros on the board up until the 8th inning, the Battling Bishops trailed 3-1 until
Davie Morgan roped an RBI double to left center to send around
Colin Scoggins.
Caleb Elias then drew a bases loaded walk to even the game at three headed into the 9th.
While the Falcons responded with three in the top of the inning, things looked bleak for the Bishops as Wesleyan was down to its final out. Loading the bases,
Davie Morgan stepped to the plate and came up clutch once more, knocking a triple into right field to clear the bases and shift the momentum into Wesleyan's favor heading into extras.
In the bottom frame of the tenth,
Isaiah Thomas would earn the walkoff walk for the Battling Bishops and secure the weekend sweep of the Falcons.
Andrew Tubb got the nod on the mound in game three for Wesleyan, and looked terrific in seven innings of work, only allowing four hits, and struck out five Falcons on the afternoon.
Justin McDonald would get his first win of the 2024 season, striking out a batter in the tenth inning to keep the score tied at six in extras.
