Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball program program swept Carolina University in a DH at Edge Field on Monday afternoon.
Morgan Aycock and
Emily Humphrey looked outstanding on the bump for the Bishops in the huge two non-conference victories.
Game 1:
North Carolina Wesleyan 5, Carolina University 0
Morgan Aycock received the ball from Coach Brackett in game one and dominated with seven shutout innings. The standout from Corinth Holders High School held the Bruins to only five hits while striking out eight. On the offensive side, Wesleyan struck first in the bottom of the first frame, with Milly Alejandrino hitting a sac-fly to score
Lillie Baumbach for the contest's first run. Later in the same inning,
Skyler Walker would come around to score for the 2-0 Bishop advantage.Â
In the third, Wesleyan tacked on another run thanks to a
Makayla Simmons single that brought around
Skyler Walker.
Game 2:
North Carolina Wesleyan 8, Carolina University 1
Responding to an early first inning run by the Bruins,
Molly Alejandrino and
Savannah Thompson both came up with clutch RBI singles to pull Wesleyan out in front 2-1 after the 1st.
Makayla Simmons gave the Battling Bishops a 3-1 advantage in the third thanks to a sac-fly that would bring
Lillie Baumbach around to score.Â
Putting the game out of reach in the 6th, Wesleyan scored five runs, starting with a
Lillie Baumbach single that scored
Alexis Whitfield. The following at bat,
Skyler Walker cleared the bases with a double to left and would later score on an error.
On the bump,
Emily Humphrey earned her third win of the year, tossing a complete game while only allowing a single hit and striking out three.
