Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball program split a DH with Piedmont at Edge Field on Friday afternoon to begin a string of four games in three days.
Morgan Aycock would be instrumental in the win, recording a 3.1 inning save to end the day on a high note.
Game 1: Piedmont 5, North Carolina Wesleyan 2
Jumping on the board in the first, the Lions would capitalize on an error to get out to an early 1-0 lead. Punching back,
Skyler Walker would even the score in third with a single to score
Alexis Whitfield and bring life into the dugout for one of two base knocks on the afternoon.Â
Unfortunately, a string of singles by the Lions to make the score 5-1 in the 5th, before the
Savannah Thompson would drive home
Molly Alejandrino for the game's final run for Wesleyan.
Game 2: North Carolina Wesleyan 4, Piedmont 1
Game two will go down as the
Ava Lowry and
Makayla Simmons show as the duo would account for all four Wesleyan runs. With three Bishops crossing the plate in the bottom of the first, Lowry would get the afternoon underway with a single to left that would drive in
Lillie Baumbach. Not to be outdone,
Makayla Simmons doubled for her first rbi of the contest and would later score on a wild pitch to wrap up the breakout frame.
Lowry would step to the plate once again in the 4th and put a bow on the win as a fielders choice would send home
Alexis Whitfield for the Bishops' fourth run.Â
On the mound, the Bishops would get two outstanding performances by
Keira Boisvert and
Morgan Aycock would who split time on the mound in game. Getting the start, Boisvert would throw 3.2 innings and not allow an earned run. Changing speeds effectively, she used the defense behind her for easy outs and one of her best showings of the season.
Appearing in her second game of the day,
Morgan Aycock would not be outmatched. Tossing 3.1 innings, the Sophomore from Corinth Holders High School only allowed one lone hit for her first save of the year.
