Fayetteville, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team defeated Methodist in both games of a DH on the road on Sunday. During the weekend, the Battling Bishop offense scored 40 runs over the course of three days to earn seven straight USA South victories.
Game 1:
North Carolina Wesleyan 13, Methodist 6
Starting off a six hit, seven RBI DH,
Davie Morgan got the afternoon started with a two RBI single to right that scored
Jackson Hobbs and
Drifton Padgett. Capping off the inning,
Colin Scoggins drove in two more Bishops to extend the lead to 4-0 out the gate.
The 3rd and 4th innings saw
Davie Morgan go yard to right center and
Tyson Bass scoring fellow outfielder
Alex Moskal via the sac-fly. Defensive replacement
Blake Scott stepped to the plate in the 6th and doubled down the right field line and would later bring home Moskal in the 9th, for Wesleyan's final run of the game.
Breaking the game open in the 7th,
Maison Nance and
Drifton Padgett both singled to send around three Bishops in the eighteen hit affair.
On the mound,
Andrew Tubb came in relief for
Chandler Padgett and only allow one hit over the course of five innings out the pen. The Graduate Student from Valrico, FL struck out six Monarchs as well.
Game 2:
North Carolina Wesleyan 12, Methodist 6
For his 12th homer of the year,
Tyson Bass delivered a blast to left center in the second at-bat of the game and started off another double-digit run affair for Wesleyan. Scoring five in the 3rd,
Javier Quintana and
Davie Morgan continued their outstanding weekends, both delivering RBI singles along with
Colin Scoggins to extend the lead to 6-0 in the 3rd.
The 7th inning got kicked off with another Morgan extra base hit and the second hit for the game by
Colin Scoggins.
Blake Scott came up with his second double down the line to bring around
Drifton Padgett.
Using three pitchers in the series finale,
Preston Workman earned his third win of the year going five innings as the Bishop's starter and only allowing three runs.
Junior
Dylan Cheeley came in relief and looked sharp with a mid 90s fastball, as did
Cullen Davis to close it out in the 9th.Â

The Battling Bishops will travel on Tuesday afternoon for a midweek clash with the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. First-pitch time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.Â
