Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team hosted Mary Baldwin in a special DH at Edge Field on Saturday. Celebrating two special Seniors in
Molly Alejandrino and
Lillie Baumbach, both got a roaring ovation from the large crowd at Edge Field and celebrated for their tremendous accomplishments as Battling Bishops. In between games, the 1998 and 1999 conference championship teams were welcomed home along with an outstanding meal prepared by Director of Security Wayne Sears.
Game 1:Â
N.C. Wesleyan 8, Mary Baldwin 11
Jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead out the gate, the Wesleyan bats were hot early.
Makayla Simmons got the Bishops on the board first thanks to an RBI single up the middle and was followed by an Avan Lowry RBI knock, which drove
Skyler Walker home. Shortstop
Alexis Whitfield knocked a two-run homer to left as the Bishops were off and rolling early on.
The 3rd and 4th frames got two more Bishops around to score, seeing another RBI hit from
Ava Lowry and an
Aleah Jones single to right.
While the Squirrels tied the game in the 7th and got the victory, the Wesleyan offense took a lot of positives into game two of the twin bill.
Game 2:
N.C. Wesleyan 10, Mary Baldwin 0
Scoring in every inning and never looking back, Senior
Lillie Baumbach secured an early 3-0 Wesleyan advantage by doubling to left center to send around
Taylor Kelly.
Skyler Walker earned her second triple of the game the next at bat and scored Baumbach from second. The Bishops exploded for six 4th inning runs as
Makayla Simmons earned the team's third triple of the afternoon with a blast to deep center.
Savannah Thompson and
Ava Lowry both got in on the hit parade, driving in three runs to put the game firmly out of reach.
On the mound,
Emily Humphrey earned her sixth win of the year with a three hit shutout in a huge outing.Â

Softball will travel to William Peace on Tuesday for a twin bill clash against the conference foe.
