Rocky Mount, NC - On Senior Day at Bauer Field, the N.C. Wesleyan baseball team swept Mary Baldwin by way of the run rule twice. In the 2nd inning of game one, right fielder
Tyson Bass blasted a three run homer to left to become the first ever player in Wesleyan history to have 40 career home runs and 80 career stolen bases. Currently in the top ten in the nation in home runs, Bass has 13 this year and is hitting .347 on the 2024 campaign.
Game 1:
N.C.Wesleyan 16, Mary Baldwin 1
Scoring five runs in the bottom of the 2nd,
Maison Nance recorded an RBI single to left center which scored
Colin Scoggins. Tacking on a pair in the 3rd,
Davie Morgan singles up the middle and was followed by Nance who once again delivered with a sac-fly.
Putting up a combined nine runs in the 5th and 6th frames,
Drifton Padgett and
Alex Moskal both recorded huge RBI knocks in both the 5th and 6th innings to easily put the game out of reach by the run rule.
On the mound for Wesleyan,
Cord Butler delivered his ninth win of the year, tossing six innings and only allowing five hits and an unearned run.
Game 2:
N.C. Wesleyan 12, Mary Baldwin 0
With three runs out the shoot in the first and second innings, Wesleyan took advantage of two Squirrel errors to get on the board. Going to the bottom of the 5th with a 3-0 advantage, the Battling Bishops received insurance runs thanks to the bats of
Blake Scott and
Alex Moskal who roped RBI hits to extend the lead to 6-0.
Putting up five in the bottom of the 7th,
Caleb Elias and
Seth Jones each had two RBI singles to end the DH by the run rule.
On the mound for Wesleyan,
Chandler Padgett would earn the complete game shutout, tossing seven innings and striking out six Squirrels while only allowing two hits.
