Softball Splits DH with Methodist

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team split a pair with Methodist on Wednesday afternoon against the Methodist Monarchs. With both games being decided by a single run, the Battling Bishops now sit at 20-16 overall for the 2024 campaign.

Game 1:
N.C. Wesleyan 8, Methodist 7

Exploding for a six run 3rd inning, Skyler Walker got the inning underway with a single up the middle to bring around Taylor Kelly and Makayla Simmons would hit an absolute bomb for a grand slam in the same frame to open the contest wide open. With Simmons coming through with an RBI single in the 4th, she now holds the all-time record for RBIs in a single season.

Scoring seven unanswered runs, the Monarchs would tie the game with a homer in the top half of the 7th, but Molly Alejandrino came up clutch driving in the game's winning run in the bottom of the frame for the walk-off victory.

Game 2:
N.C. Wesleyan 4, Methodist 5

Getting the start on the bump in game two for the Bishops, Keira Boisvert looked outstanding throwing Monarch hitters off for five innings and striking out three. Jumping out for a 2-0 start in the 4th to give Boisvert run support, Skyler Walker blasted a triple to left center to bring around Lillie Baumbach while Ava Lowry would follow the next at-bat with a sac-fly to bring Walker to the plate. The 6th inning saw the power bats in Simmons and Alejandrino come alive once again to tie the game at four headed into the 7th. While Wesleyan couldn't hold on, the Battling Bishops will regroup and head to Meredith on Saturday.
