Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball program swept Greensboro in a DH on Friday to advance to the USA South Championship Series. It will mark the 2nd straight year Wesleyan has hosted the event as the #1 seed.
Game 1:
N.C. Wesleyan 8, Greensboro 6
Jumping out to a 1st inning lead,
Jackson Hobbs delivered the afternoon's first run with a sac-fly to right which sent home
Drifton Padgett. Responding to a five spot put up by the Pride in the 2nd,
Colin Scoggins delivered a huge RBI single and was followed by
Jaiden Barker who homered to left center for the 4th run of the frame.
Davie Morgan tacked one another run in the third, singling up the middle to score
Blake Scott.
Driving in two crucial runs in the 6th and 7th innings,
Jackson Hobbs and
Maison Nance brought home
Tyson Bass and
Davie Morgan in two insurance runs.
On the mound,
Chandler Padgett dazzled, tossing 8.2 innings and striking out nine batters while only walking a pair.
Cullen Davis earned the save for the Battling Bishops, getting the game's final out.
Game 2:
N.C. Wesleyan 7, Greensboro 3
Another big offensive game for Wesleyan saw the Battling Bishops score at least one run in each of the first four frames.
Davie Morgan looked outstanding at the plate, hitting a sac-fly and homering in the first three innings. Able to capitalize off errors and wild pitches,
Tyson Bass,
Drifton Padgett and
Colin Scoggins all touched the plate in the Wesleyan onslaught.
Pitching for the Battling Bishops,
Andrew Tubb earned his 5th win of the year, throwing 7.1 innings and only allowing three runs while striking out three.
Marc Dennunzio and
Dylan Cheeley were also both sharp out of the pen, only allowing a single hit and no earned runs.
