Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team delivered a strong home performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Mary Baldwin 4–1 in USA South play at Scalf Field.
The Bishops improved to 4–7–1 overall and 2–1–1 in the USA South, while the Fighting Squirrels fell to 2–10–1 and 0–4 in conference action.
Game Summary
Wesleyan generated offensive pressure early, recording twelve shots in the first half and finally breaking through in the 36th minute when Israel Monsanto scored off an assist from Mohamed Macalou to give the Bishops a 1–0 lead. Mary Baldwin responded just two minutes later as Isaiah Williams found the back of the net to even the score 1–1 heading into halftime.
The Bishops dominated the second half, controlling possession and creating numerous chances. Monsanto tallied his second goal of the match in the 61st minute to put Wesleyan back in front 2–1. Joel McGinnes added to the lead with a strike in the 68th minute, and Nicolas Sautua sealed the victory with a goal in the 78th minute off an assist from Santiago Calvo Lovera.
