Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team battled to a gritty 1–0 win over Mary Washington on Wednesday night at Scalf Field, picking up a key non-conference victory behind a first-half goal from
Corentin Solitaire.
The Bishops (5–7–1, 2–1–1 USA South) struck in the 23rd minute when Solitaire found the back of the net off an assist from Santiago Calvo Lovera. Calvo Lovera delivered a sharp ball through the midfield that Solitaire buried for what would stand as the game's only goal.
Wesleyan's defense held firm for the remainder of the match, anchored by goalkeeper Jacob Westermark, who recorded two saves in the clean sheet. The Bishops limited Mary Washington (7–6–2) to just two shots on goal despite the Eagles holding a 10–4 edge in total attempts.
Midfielders Jordi Rodriguez and Jaden Delos provided steady control in the middle of the pitch, while defenders Daan Post and Corentin Solitaire anchored the back line to preserve the shutout.
The victory marked the Bishops' fifth win of the season and continued its momentum as NCWU returns to USA South play.
