Women's Soccer Shines on Senior Day with 5–0 Win Over Salem

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style Saturday afternoon, earning a dominant 5–0 win over Salem at Scalf Field. The Bishops' offense was clicking from start to finish, while the defense secured its third conference victory of the season.

The win improved North Carolina Wesleyan to 4–7–1 overall and 3–3 in USA South play, while Salem fell to 3–5–3 and 0–3–2 in the league.

Game Summary
The Bishops set the tone early with a goal in the 11th minute from Makena Meyer, who fired home a shot to give Wesleyan an early advantage. Just seventeen minutes later, Mia Scherbrer buried a penalty kick to make it 2–0. Before the half, Samantha Dell extended the lead to 3–0 after connecting on a perfect setup from Meyer.

In the second half, Wesleyan continued its relentless attack. Mary Chambers scored in the 84th minute to make it 4–0, and Scherbrer capped off the day with her second goal just three minutes later to seal the 5–0 victory.

By the Numbers
The Bishops outshot Salem 18–7 and finished with eleven shots on goal. Scherbrer led the way with two goals, while Meyer added one goal and one assist. Dell and Chambers each scored once, and goalkeeper Lauren Graham recorded four saves to earn the shutout.

The defense, anchored by seniors Eden Whiteside and Nicole Goodwin, held the Spirits to just one shot in the opening half and controlled possession throughout the match.

Senior Day Recognition
Prior to kickoff, North Carolina Wesleyan honored its three seniors — Eden Whiteside, Samantha Dell, and Mia Scherber — for their leadership and contributions to the program.

Whiteside, a two-year team captain from Jeffersonton, Virginia, has earned USA South First and Second Team All-Conference honors while excelling academically as a member of the President's Honors List and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Dell, a native of Falls Church, Virginia, has been a consistent offensive threat throughout her career, leading the Bishops in goals last season while earning team MVP and USA South All-Conference honors.

Scherber, from Clayton, North Carolina, has been a steady three-year starter and midfield leader, also contributing to the Pre-Law Club and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
