Men's Soccer Falls 2–0 to Christopher Newport on Homecoming Week

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team battled nationally ranked Christopher Newport on Wednesday night at Scalf Field but came up short, 2–0, in a non-conference matchup that capped Homecoming Week in Rocky Mount.

The Captains (10–1–4) struck early in the seventh minute when Joe Summerfield converted off a cross from Declan Karney to give CNU the early advantage. The Bishops (6–8–1, 3–1–1 USA South) settled in defensively for the remainder of the half, limiting the nationally ranked visitors to just three total shots before intermission.

Christopher Newport extended its lead midway through the second half when Drew McWhinney found the back of the net in the 62nd minute off an assist from Michael Hackworth to make it 2–0. Despite several promising buildups and three corner kicks after halftime, the Bishops could not break through against a disciplined CNU back line.

Elliot Helander recorded three saves in goal for Wesleyan, while Jack Mudd and Lorenzo Bertoni each registered shots on frame. The Bishops were whistled for ten fouls and received one yellow card in a physical contest that featured strong defensive play from both sides.
