Buena Vista, VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team earned its first USA South victory of the season on Saturday evening, defeating Southern Virginia 2–1 at Knight Stadium.
The Bishops (3–7–1, 1–1–1 USA South) battled back from an early deficit to claim the road win, showing composure and energy on both sides of the ball.
Southern Virginia struck first in the 19th minute when Porter Whitlock scored off an assist from Brock Hester to make it 1–0. Wesleyan answered before halftime as freshman Mikkel Christensen converted a setup from Jordi Rodriguez in the 36th minute to tie the match at 1–1.
The Bishops carried that momentum into the second half, breaking the deadlock in the 61st minute when Tom Roantree netted the go-ahead goal off a pass from Mohamed Macalou. From there, Wesleyan's defense stood tall, anchored by goalkeeper Facundo Boismoreau, who recorded four saves to preserve the 2–1 victory.
