Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan football team delivered a complete performance Saturday evening, defeating Methodist 48-17 at Monarch Stadium to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in USA South play.
Quarterback Braylon Knapp led a balanced Wesleyan offense, finishing 9-for-16 for 183 yards and four touchdowns through the air. Three different receivers found the end zone, highlighted by a 66-yard strike to Sean Cartwright and a pair of touchdowns to Michael Pannell, who also returned a punt 61 yards for a score in the second quarter.
Running back Nahjir Seagraves powered the ground game with 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, while Knapp added nineteen yards on the ground. The Bishops' offense produced 333 total yards on just 50 plays, averaging 6.7 yards per snap.
On defense, senior Savonte McKeithan capped the night with a game-sealing 80-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Mathias Winston led the team with ten tackles, while Eric Cooper tallied seven stops, a forced fumble, and a tackle for loss.
Methodist's C.J. Ferguson rushed for 112 yards and both Monarch touchdowns, but the Bishops' defense tightened after halftime, shutting out the hosts in the fourth quarter.
Braxtyn Green was efficient in the kicking game, going 6-for-7 on PATs and averaging 44 yards per punt, including a long of 55.
