Rocky Mount, NC - Championship Saturday has arrived in Rocky Mount, as the North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team will host Methodist for the USA South Championship on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. on Scalf Field.
The Bishops (8-8-2, 4-1-2 USA South) advanced to the title match after a thrilling 3-2 semifinal victory over William Peace on Wednesday. Trailing twice in that contest, Wesleyan battled back behind goals from Tom Roantree, Israel Monsanto, and Jordi Rodriguez to secure their spot in the championship game.
Tomorrow's matchup marks a rematch of the regular-season meeting between the two programs, which ended in a scoreless draw on October 29 in Raleigh. Both teams now meet again—this time with the conference title on the line.
Methodist (6-3-11, 1-0-6 USA South) earned its way to the final after upsetting top-seeded Pfeiffer in penalty kicks during the semifinals. The Monarchs have proven to be a resilient and disciplined side, relying on a strong defensive unit and timely goals throughout their postseason run.
For the Bishops, head coach Mark Bowman's squad has found momentum at the perfect time, winning or drawing five of their last six matches. The trio of Roantree, Rodriguez, and Monsanto have been key contributors offensively, while goalkeeper Jacob Westermark and defenders Daan Post and Corentin Solitaire have anchored a back line that continues to rise to the moment.
Coach Bowman shared his appreciation for the support surrounding the program as his team prepares for the championship:
"As I'm sure many of you have heard, our men's soccer team is hosting the USA South Conference Championship tomorrow at 2 p.m. right here on Scalf Field. I need your help to prepare our players for this game," Bowman said. "This championship is not just for men's soccer, but for the entire NCWU community to celebrate. We'd love for everyone to come out, cheer loud, and show the guys how much support they have behind them. Honored to be a Bishop!"
Fans are encouraged to pack Scalf Field and bring their energy as Wesleyan looks to capture the USA South title on home turf.
