Wesleyan Offense Shines in 91-Point Performance Against Regent

Virginia Beach, VA - N.C. Wesleyan continued its strong start to the 2025–26 season with a confident 91-77 road victory over Regent University on December 10, showcasing balanced scoring, efficiency, and physical play. From the opening tip, the Bishops set the tone with effective ball movement and high-percentage shots, finishing the night with a 50.0% field-goal percentage and knocking down 35.7% from three-point range. Wesleyan also excelled at the free-throw line, converting 83.3% of its attempts — a crucial factor in sustaining leads and seizing momentum throughout the game.

Senior forward Justin Burden was the centerpiece of the Wesleyan attack, leading all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while also pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out two assists. His presence inside set the tone on both ends of the court, whether finishing through contact in the paint or securing key boards to fuel transition opportunities. Nasir Johnson matched that intensity with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting, and his ability to score efficiently around the rim kept Regent's defense on its heels. Guard Rashod Smith provided a spark off the perimeter and in the back court, adding 16 points and three steals, while Deejayy Cox contributed solid minutes with seven points and seven rebounds,  further adding to the Bishops' balanced production.

Wesleyan's depth was on full display, as multiple contributors provided valuable minutes and relieved pressure from the starters. The team generated 21 points off turnovers, signaling active defensive hands and transition opportunities, and also finished with 13 fast-break points, highlighting its ability to convert defensive stops into quick scoring chances. On the glass, the Bishops finished with 33 rebounds, helping limit Regent's second-chance opportunities and sustaining their offensive possessions when needed.

Despite a late run from Regent in the second half, Wesleyan maintained composure by converting key free throws and pushing the pace to keep the Royals at bay. The Bishops' efficient shot selection, strong rebounding presence, and aggressive defensive play allowed them to stay in control for most of the game, earning a convincing road win that further cemented their early-season momentum.
