Baseball Explodes in Eighth Inning to Defeat Lebanon Valley

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team used a monumental eight-run eighth inning to surge past Lebanon Valley, earning a 13-4 non-conference win on Monday morning at Bauer Field. The victory improves the Battling Bishops to 2-5 on the season while the Dutchmen fall to 1-2.

Lebanon Valley jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first with an RBI single from Logan Brewer. Wesleyan responded in the second inning when Jacob Trivette launched a solo home run to left field, tying the game at 1-1. The Bishops added two more runs in the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI double by Jackson Hobbs and a fielder's choice from Maison Nance, taking a 3-1 lead.

The Dutchmen clawed back with runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings to reclaim a 4-3 advantage. However, the Battling Bishops erupted in the bottom of the eighth, scoring ten runs on six hits and four walks to put the game out of reach. Trivette ignited the rally with his second homer of the day, tying the game at 4-4. Maison Nance's two-run double gave Wesleyan a 6-4 lead, and the Bishops never looked back. The offensive outburst included a sacrifice fly by Travis Gamache, RBI singles from Malachi Hayes and Seth Jones, and a two-run double by Brady Williams to cap the inning.

Trivette led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two homers, four runs scored, and two RBIs. Hayes added three hits and an RBI, while Nance drove in three runs. On the mound, Colby Lewis earned the first win of his collegiate career with 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, striking out two. Drake Hobgood started and tossed six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while fanning four.
