Misenheimer, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team battled against nationally ranked No. 22 Pfeiffer on Saturday but came up short in both games of the USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader, dropping the opener 4-0 and the second game 8-4 at Jack Ingram Field.
Game One: Pfeiffer 4, N.C. Wesleyan 0
In the opener, the Bishops were held to just three hits as Pfeiffer's Emma Bullin tossed a complete-game shutout. The Falcons plated single runs in the second and fifth innings before adding two insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win.
Skyler Walker, Savannah Bain, and Ragan Holloman each tallied a hit for Wesleyan, while starting pitcher Emily Humphrey (4-2) battled through six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk.
Pfeiffer's offense was led by Emma Chopko, who tripled home a run in the fifth, and Landry Stewart, who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Game Two: Pfeiffer 8, N.C. Wesleyan 4
The Bishops jumped out to an early lead in the second game when Kyiah Simmons launched a two-run home run in the first inning, giving Wesleyan a 2-0 advantage. However, Pfeiffer responded with four runs in the second and another four-run outburst in the fifth to take control.
Wesleyan fought back in the sixth, as Ava Lowry delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 8-4, but the Falcons' pitching held firm to seal the sweep.
Holloman and Simmons led the Bishops' offense with two hits apiece, while Addyson Romanczyk (3-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
Pfeiffer's offense was powered by a balanced attack, with six different players driving in runs. Chopko, Emily Dickerson, and Charly Cooper each recorded extra-base hits in the win.
