Lacrosse Falls to Huntingdon in Home Contest

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's lacrosse team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to USA South opponent Huntingdon, 15-9, on Saturday at Stallings Field.

The Bishops started strong, taking an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Nicole Triassi, who scored twice in the first five minutes off assists from Bri Garcia and Alaska Evans. After an early response from Huntingdon's Reagan Barrett, Maxima Iglesias found the back of the net at the 7:58 mark to push NCWU ahead 3-1. However, the Hawks capitalized on opportunities, scoring twice to close the first quarter tied at 3-3.

The second quarter saw NCWU momentarily even the score at 4-4 after a goal from Kelsi Oyer, but Huntingdon responded with three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. The Hawks continued the momentum in the third period, extending the lead to 12-4 before Iglesias notched her second goal of the game to stop the run.

Despite trailing, the Battling Bishops showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Huntingdon 4-3. Goals from Oyer, Evans, Iglesias, and a man-up tally from Triassi helped NCWU close the gap, but a late goal from Payton Hill sealed the victory for the Hawks.

Iglesias and Triassi led Wesleyan with three goals each, while Oyer added two and Evans contributed one. Triassi and Iglesias also recorded assists. Defensively, goalie Jillian Stine tallied multiple key saves to keep the Bishops within striking distance.

Huntingdon was led by Barrett, who had a game-high seven goals, while Kate Hudson and Hill each netted three. The Hawks improved to 4-3 overall and 4-0 in USA South play, while Wesleyan fell to 0-8 on the season.
