Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team put together a stellar performance on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Southern Virginia at Edge Field. The Battling Bishops improved to 14-10 on the season, securing a 4-0 shutout in game one before powering its way to a 9-1 victory in game two.
Game 1: N.C. Wesleyan 4, Southern Virginia 0
Wesleyan's pitching and defense shined in the opener, as Emily Humphrey tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five over seven innings.
The Bishops took an early lead in the first inning when Savannah Bain delivered an RBI single to score Skyler Walker. The game remained tight until the sixth, when Wesleyan capitalized on key opportunities. Kayla Simmons drove in a run with a single, and two more runs crossed the plate on a defensive miscue by Southern Virginia to seal the victory.
Game 2: N.C. Wesleyan 9, Southern Virginia 1 (6 Innings)
The Bishops' offense exploded in the second game, racking up sixteen hits to secure a run-rule victory in six innings. Ragan Holloman led the charge with a 3-for-3 performance, including a two-run double in the first inning to put Wesleyan ahead early.
Kyiah Simmons highlighted the offensive barrage with a two-run homer in the sixth, her eighth of the season. Ramzie Bryant also contributed with a two-run double in the third, while Alexis Whitfield and Kayla Simmons each added RBIs.
Morgan Aycock was dominant in the circle, allowing just one run on four hits across six innings while striking out two to pick up the win.
