Elaez Miranda Named Player of the Year; Five Bishops Honored on USA South Women's Tennis All-Conference Team

Rome, GA - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2025 Women's Tennis All-Conference awards, with North Carolina Wesleyan leading the way in individual honors and selections.

Headlining the list of honorees was junior Andrea Elaez Miranda, who was named USA South Player of the Year after an outstanding season at the top of the Battling Bishops' lineup. Miranda becomes just the second women's tennis student-athlete in program history to earn this prestigious award, joining Natalia Lopez who claimed the honor in 2015.

Miranda, a native of Lima, Peru, posted a perfect 7-0 singles record against USA South opponents this spring while competing exclusively at the number-one position. Her season was highlighted by a three-set victory over three-time league Player of the Year Paula Snelson of Southern Virginia. In doubles play, Miranda teamed with Ivanna Torres to go unbeaten in conference action, also finishing 7-0. For her efforts, Miranda earned First Team All-Conference recognition for the first time after previously earning Second Team honors in each of the last two seasons. She also picked up USA South Player of the Week accolades once during the season.

Joining Miranda on the First Team were Bethan Fothergill and Ivanna Torres, giving the Bishops three representatives on the league's top squad. Fothergill compiled an 11-6 singles record this season, including a 7-0 mark in conference matches, while Torres posted a 10-5 singles record and also went undefeated at 6-0 in league singles play.

Melanie Guzman Gonzalez and Ajla Selimovic were named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference list. Guzman Gonzalez finished with a 6-4 singles record, including an impressive 5-0 in USA South play, while Selimovic went 8-8 overall with a 6-1 conference record.

In addition to her Player of the Year and First Team selections, Miranda was also honored as Wesleyan's representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team, recognized for her leadership, integrity, and respect on and off the court.

The Battling Bishops concluded the regular season with an overall record of 7-6, including a perfect 7-0 in conference play, securing the program's place as the top seed heading into the USA South Tournament.
