Winston-Salem, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan softball team turned in a dominant afternoon on the road Saturday, sweeping a USA South doubleheader at Salem with decisive 8-0 and 13-1 victories.
Game 1: N.C. Wesleyan 8, Salem 0 (5 Innings)
Behind a complete-game shutout from Emily Humphrey and a monster day at the plate from Kayla Simmons, the Bishops took the opener in five innings.
Humphrey (6-2) was lights out in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out six over five frames. She also helped her own cause offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kayla Simmons led the offensive surge, going 3-for-3 with a two-run home run in the fourth and three total RBIs. The fifth inning saw the Bishops explode for six runs, highlighted by RBIs from Kyiah Simmons, Alexis Whitfield, and a two-run single up the middle from Humphrey.
The defense was spotless as well, as Wesleyan turned a double play and committed no errors.
Game 2: N.C. Wesleyan 13, Salem 1
The bats stayed hot in game two as the Bishops racked up thirteen runs on eleven hits while taking advantage of four Salem errors. Savannah Bain had a huge performance, going 3-for-5 with two triples, a double, and four RBIs. Her triple in the fourth helped break the game open, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Wesleyan piled on seven runs in the seventh inning alone, including RBIs from Ragan Holloman, Ava Lowry, and another two-run triple from Bain.
Addyson Romanczyk went the distance in the circle, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine in a complete-game effort.
