Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan softball team punched its ticket to the USA South Conference Championship Series with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field. With the victory, the Bishops advance to next weekend's best-of-three final at Pfeiffer, beginning Saturday, May 9TH.
Wesleyan struck early and never trailed, plating a run in the bottom of the first when Kyiah Simmons delivered an RBI single to score Skyler Walker. The Bishops extended the lead to 3-0 in the third, as Savannah Bain drove in two runs with a base hit up the middle, scoring Ragan Holloman and Simmons.
Greensboro threatened in the sixth inning when Taylor hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Wesleyan's pitching held firm. Morgan Aycock earned the win with 5.2 innings of work, allowing five hits and two earned runs. Emily Humphrey came on in relief to close out the final 1.1 innings and secure her fourth save of the season.
Offensively, the Bishops totaled eight hits, led by Simmons (2-for-3, RBI), Holloman (2-for-3), and Walker (1-for-2, walk, stolen base). Bain added the decisive two-RBI single, and the defense turned a key double play to keep Greensboro off the board early.
