Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bishops Grab First Win in Return Home

The N.C. Wesleyan women's soccer team secured its first win of the 2025 season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Randolph College 2–1 at Scalf Field. The Bishops struck early, added a second-half winner, and held firm defensively to move to 1–2–1 on the year.

Wesleyan wasted no time getting on the board, opening the scoring just 1:23 into the match. Makena Meyer converted off an assist from Sophia Paul to give the Bishops a 1–0 advantage and ignite the home crowd. Randolph answered minutes later, leveling the score at 5:30 through Madison Booker to even the contest at 1–1 heading into halftime.

After the break, Wesleyan continued to push forward and found the decisive goal in the 72nd minute. Substitute Eliana Butler delivered the game-winner with a composed finish, putting the Bishops back in front 2–1. From there, the defense and goalkeeper Grace Walls, who recorded four saves on the day, closed out the match to secure the result.

Statistically, Randolph held an 11–8 edge in total shots and a 7–4 advantage in corner kicks, but Wesleyan was more efficient, putting six of their eight shots on frame. Both goalkeepers tallied four saves in what was a competitive, back-and-forth contest.

Meyer's quick strike and Butler's clutch finish highlighted a strong offensive effort, while Walls anchored a defensive unit that stayed organized under pressure.

The Bishops will look to carry this momentum into their next contest as they return to Scalf Field on Sunday, September 14, for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference matchup against Johnson & Wales.
