Dell Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Drops USA South Opener

Rocky Mount, NC - The N.C. Wesleyan women's soccer team came up short in its USA South opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 6–3 to Southern Virginia at Scalf Field. The Bishops rallied to tie the match twice and pulled within one in the second half, but the Knights answered quickly and pulled away late.

Southern Virginia (1-4-1, 1-0-0 USA South) struck first in the 14th minute, but Samantha Dell responded just 82 seconds later to even the score at 1–1. After the Knights regained the lead, Dell netted her second goal in the 40th minute off a pass from Maison Berrios, sending the teams into halftime tied 2–2.

In the second half, the Knights scored twice to go up 4–2 before Eden Whiteside pulled Wesleyan back within one on a 71st-minute strike assisted by Eliana Butler. Southern Virginia immediately countered with two goals over the next eight minutes to close out the 6–3 final.

Dell finished with two goals to pace the Bishops (1-4-1, 0-1-0 USA South), while Whiteside added one. Goalkeeper Grace Walls recorded ten saves while facing 21 shots.
