Bishops Shine on Alumni Night in 80–58 Win

Rocky Mount N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan delivered a commanding 80–58 USA South Conference victory over William Peace on February 11 at Everett Gymnasium in front of a large and energetic Alumni Night crowd. With alumni returning to campus and a strong turnout filling the stands, the Bishops fed off the atmosphere from the opening tip. Wesleyan jumped out early, building a 40–22 halftime lead behind efficient offense and defensive pressure, and maintained control throughout the second half. The Bishops shot 51.7 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line while dominating inside with 44 points in the paint and adding 17 fast-break points. Their balanced attack and depth were evident as the bench contributed 24 points and the team forced key turnovers to sustain momentum all evening.

Justin Burden led the way with an outstanding performance, scoring 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting while anchoring the offense in the paint. Markquan Gilbert provided a major spark off the bench with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Rashod Smith added 12 points and four steals, helping set the tone defensively and in transition, while Nasir Johnson contributed nine points, six rebounds, and three assists to round out a well-balanced effort. With strong contributions across the lineup and a dominant performance in front of a packed Alumni Night crowd, the Bishops secured an impressive home conference victory and continued their momentum in USA South play.
