Bishops Shine on Senior Day with 89–72 Victory

Rocky Mount N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan celebrated Senior Day in impressive fashion on February 14, defeating Southern Virginia 89–72 at Everett Gymnasium in front of a large and enthusiastic home crowd. With seniors honored prior to tipoff and fans filling the stands, the Bishops fed off the energy early and never trailed in the contest. Wesleyan built a 46–34 halftime lead behind efficient offense and strong defensive pressure, then continued to control the pace in the second half by outscoring the Knights 43–38. The Bishops were outstanding from the field, shooting 61.5 percent overall and finishing 23-of-27 at the free-throw line. Wesleyan dominated inside with 46 points in the paint, added 24 fast-break points, and forced key turnovers that led to 19 points, showcasing a complete performance on both ends of the floor.

Rashod Smith led the charge with 24 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line, adding three assists and setting the tone offensively. Nasir Johnson followed with 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds and recording four steals. James Jones contributed 15 points and six rebounds, and Markquan Gilbert provided a major spark off the bench with 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Deejayy Cox added four points and three rebounds while anchoring the interior defense. With balanced scoring, high-level efficiency, and a dominant effort in front of a packed Senior Day crowd, the Bishops secured a statement USA South Conference victory and celebrated their seniors in memorable fashion.
