Bishops Gain Valuable Experience in Early-Season Matchups

Montgomery, Alabama -

Game 1:
In game one, the Battling Bishops dropped a tightly contested 4-2 decision to MUW. Wesleyan's pitching staff kept the game within reach throughout, with Chase Chappell striking out seven over five innings while allowing just two unearned runs. Offensively, the Bishops broke through in the seventh inning. After Malachi Hayes reached and Brady Williams singled, Banks Hartman delivered a clutch two-RBI single to left, plating both runners and trimming the deficit to one. Williams finished with two hits and a stolen base, while Hayes added a double as part of Wesleyan's five-hit effort. The Bishops threatened again in the ninth, as Williams doubled and later stole third, and Conner Ferebee singled to put the tying run in scoring position, but MUW was able to hold on as Wesleyan left the tying run on base.

Game 2: In the second game of the day, Wesleyan fell to North Park 11-1. The Bishops showed early fight, with Schumata Brown continuing a strong day at the plate. Brown collected three hits, including two doubles, and scored Wesleyan's lone run in the third inning when Maison Nance drove him in with an RBI single to right. Brady Williams added two hits, while Malachi Hayes and Aydin Zimmerman also contributed base knocks as the Bishops tallied eight hits overall. On the mound, Colby Lewis made the start before Sam Johnson, Mason Botbol, Blake Bennett, Domenic Azzarello, Drake Hobgood, and Aaron Holley each saw action as the team worked to limit damage against a North Park lineup that capitalized on key opportunities late in the game. Despite the final score, Wesleyan displayed resilience at the plate and gained valuable early-season experience against competitive non-conference opponents.
