Wesleyan Battles Through High-Scoring Contest at Montreat

Montreat, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team continued its opening weekend road swing on February 14, falling to Montreat College, 24-14, at Pulliam Stadium. Despite the final margin, the Battling Bishops showcased a strong offensive effort, highlighted by a dominant performance from Maxima Iglesias, who netted nine goals and added two assists for an 11-point outing. Nicole Triassi added four goals of her own, while Kelsi Oyer found the back of the net once to round out Wesleyan's 14-goal performance.

Wesleyan struck first with back-to-back goals from Iglesias to take an early 2-0 lead in the opening quarter. Montreat responded with a surge to close the first period, but the Bishops answered with a strong second quarter, scoring six goals. Triassi recorded a hat trick in the period, including a score off an assist from Iglesias, while Iglesias continued to pressure the defense with multiple unassisted finishes. Wesleyan entered halftime with nine goals after converting two free-position opportunities.

In the fourth quarter, the Bishops continued to compete, adding four goals. Triassi scored man-down off an assist from Eliana Butler, Iglesias converted a free-position attempt, and Oyer capped the scoring with a man-up goal assisted by Iglesias. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Daniels played all 60 minutes and recorded nine saves while facing 42 shots. As a team, Wesleyan successfully cleared 15-of-20 attempts and tallied 14 ground balls in the contest.

The Battling Bishops showed offensive firepower throughout the matchup and will look to build on their scoring momentum as the season progresses.
