Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan closed out its three-game series against Penn State–Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon at Bauer Field, falling 18-3 in the finale. The Battling Bishops struck early and briefly grabbed momentum in the opening inning before the visitors used a big middle stretch to pull away.
After surrendering a run in the top of the first, Wesleyan answered immediately. Hayes Hillier reached to spark the inning, and Schumata Brown delivered an RBI single to even the score. Later in the frame, Brady Williams came through with an RBI single to give the Bishops a 2-1 lead. Penn State–Harrisburg responded with three runs in the second to retake control, but Wesleyan continued to compete through the middle innings.
The game turned in the fifth when the visitors capitalized on timely hits and a series of baserunners to plate eight runs and extend their advantage. Despite the deficit, the Bishops continued to battle. In the eighth inning, Riley Anderson worked a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Aydin Zimmerman to account for Wesleyan's final run of the afternoon.
Malachi Hayes added a hit, and Brown reached base three times to lead the offense, while Nathanael Volk made the start on the mound. Dom Azzarello, Drake Hobgood, Ben Powers, Seth Tickel, and Preston Workman each saw action in relief as Wesleyan worked through the remainder of the contest. Though the final score was not in their favor, the Bishops showed early offensive energy and continued to compete through the final game of the series at Bauer Field.
