Bishops Sweep Sweet Briar in Road Doubleheader

Amherst County, V.A. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball earned a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon, defeating Sweet Briar 6-0 in game one and 10-5 in the nightcap on the road in Virginia.

In the opener, the Bishops broke through late to secure the shutout victory. After five scoreless innings on both sides, Wesleyan struck in the sixth when Kayla Simmons and Brooke Markiewicz reached base ahead of Savannah Bain, who delivered a two-RBI single to give the Bishops a 2-0 advantage. Wesleyan put the game away in the seventh. Victoria Lloyd singled to spark the rally before Aleah Jones and Ragan Holloman reached to load the bases. Kyiah Simmons then launched a grand slam to left-center, extending the lead to 6-0. Addyson Romanczyk was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits and striking out two. The Bishops finished with eight hits in the victory, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Holloman and Markiewicz.

Game two featured early offense and steady responses from the Bishops. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Wesleyan answered with three runs in the second. Kendall Wallace singled home a run before Kyiah Simmons doubled to drive in two more, giving the Bishops a 3-2 lead. Sweet Briar briefly reclaimed the advantage, but Wesleyan tied the game in the fourth when Jones doubled and later scored.

The Bishops erupted in the fifth inning, plating five runs to seize control. Bain reached and later scored, while Holloman delivered a two-RBI double to highlight the frame. Aggressive baserunning and heads-up play helped Wesleyan capitalize on Sweet Briar miscues, pushing the lead to 9-4. Wesleyan added another run in the sixth when Bain doubled and came home on a groundout.

Wallace started in the circle and worked four innings before Ava Strickland came on in relief, earning the win with three strong innings to close out the 10-5 victory. Offensively, Jones scored three runs, Wallace added two hits and two runs scored, and Holloman paced the lineup with two hits and two RBI as the Bishops totaled 11 hits in the nightcap.

The sweep marks a strong road showing for North Carolina Wesleyan, as the Bishops combined timely hitting with solid pitching to secure two important victories.
