Wesleyan Faces Tough USA South Test at Southern Virginia

Buena Vista, V.A. - The N.C. Wesleyan women's lacrosse team traveled to Buena Vista, Virginia on March 14 for a USA South matchup against Southern Virginia, falling 20-0. The Battling Bishops faced a strong offensive surge from the host Knights, who jumped out to an early advantage and maintained control throughout the contest.

Southern Virginia built a 10-0 lead in the opening quarter and extended the margin to 14-0 by halftime. The Knights continued to apply pressure in the second half, adding five goals in the third quarter and one more in the fourth to secure the victory. Southern Virginia finished the game with 32 shots compared to Wesleyan's attempts, while also holding advantages in ground balls and draw controls.

Defensively, the Bishops continued to compete despite the difficult matchup. Elizabeth Daniels started in goal and recorded three saves in the first quarter before Lauren Graham stepped in for the remainder of the contest and added five saves. Kelsi Oyer led Wesleyan with four ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Eliana Butler contributed two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.

Although the result did not go their way, the Battling Bishops continued to battle throughout the contest and will look to regroup as they move forward in conference play.
