Asheboro, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan closed out its weekend series against Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at McCrary Park with a thrilling 14-13 victory, rallying multiple times late to secure the win in a back-and-forth contest. The Battling Bishops collected 13 hits and capitalized on several Greensboro errors while delivering timely power at the plate.
Wesleyan struck first in the opening inning when Banks Hartman singled and later scored along with Maison Nance on a Greensboro fielding error to give the Bishops a quick 2-0 advantage. Greensboro answered to tie the game before the Bishops regained the lead in the fifth as Hayes Hillier scored on a run-scoring double from Malachi Hayes. Hartman added a solo home run in the sixth to keep Wesleyan within striking distance after Greensboro pushed ahead during the middle innings.
Trailing 11-4 in the seventh, the Bishops began their comeback. Schumata Brown doubled home a run before Kyle Brazaeu lifted a sacrifice fly and Jake Flowers delivered an RBI single as Wesleyan plated four runs to cut the deficit. The momentum continued in the eighth when Maison Nance blasted a three-run home run to tie the game, and Brady Williams followed later in the inning with an RBI single that gave the Bishops the lead.
After Greensboro tied the game again in the eighth, Wesleyan delivered the decisive blow in the ninth. Jackson Ellyson drew a walk before Brown launched a two-run homer to center field, putting the Bishops back in front. Greensboro threatened in the bottom half, but the Wesleyan defense secured the final outs to complete the dramatic victory.
At the plate, Brown led the offense with two hits, including a home run and three RBIs, while Hartman homered and reached base four times. Nance added a three-run homer, and Williams finished with three hits as the Bishops continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup. On the mound, Nathanael Volk started the game before Caleb Dennis, Mason Botbol, Preston Workman, and Ben Powers worked in relief, with Powers earning the win after closing out the final 3.2 innings.
