Battling Bishops Drop Contest After Late Push by William Peace

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan battled early but was unable to hold off a late surge from William Peace, falling 14-6 on Saturday afternoon at Bauer Field. The Battling Bishops totaled 10 hits and showed strong offensive production through the first six innings before a pivotal seventh inning shifted momentum.

Wesleyan matched William Peace early, tying the game in the first when Maison Nance delivered an RBI single to score Malachi Hayes. The Bishops took the lead in the second as Brady Williams scored on a wild pitch, and extended their advantage in the fourth when Jake Flowers drove in a run with a groundout. Wesleyan continued to build on its lead in the fifth, as Nance added two more RBIs with a single to push the Bishops ahead 5-1.

After William Peace trimmed the deficit, Wesleyan added another run in the sixth when Hayes reached on an error that allowed Jake Flowers to score, giving the Bishops a 6-2 lead. Nathanael Volk turned in a solid start on the mound, working six innings and allowing just two runs while striking out three to keep Wesleyan in control through the early stages.

The game shifted in the seventh inning as William Peace erupted for nine runs, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues to take the lead. Despite putting runners on base late, the Bishops were unable to respond offensively over the final innings.

Schumata Brown led the offense with four hits, while Nance added two hits and three RBIs. Hayes scored twice and reached base multiple times, and Flowers drove in a run in the effort. Wesleyan's bullpen saw action from Ben Powers, Caleb Dennis, and Jackson Pavone as the Bishops closed out the contest.
