Bishops Fall Late in Series Finale Against William Peace

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead but was unable to hold off a late push from William Peace, falling 12-9 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Bauer Field . The Battling Bishops totaled 11 hits and built momentum in the middle innings before the Pacers rallied late to secure the win.

Wesleyan broke through in the third inning with a four-run frame to take control of the game. Matthew Hannah and Caleb Elias each singled to set the table before Malachi Hayes added a base hit. Schumata Brown drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Banks Hartman followed with a two-RBI single. Kyle Brazaeu capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give the Bishops a 4-0 lead. William Peace chipped away and tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth, but Wesleyan regained the lead in the sixth when Brady Williams scored on a wild pitch.

The Bishops extended their advantage in the seventh inning with another big rally. Maison Nance delivered an RBI single, Hartman and Brazaeu each added run-producing hits, and Jake Flowers drove in a run to push Wesleyan ahead 9-4.

However, William Peace responded with four runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to one before completing the comeback in the ninth with another four-run inning. Despite the late setback, Wesleyan had strong performances at the plate, with Hartman collecting two hits and two RBIs, Nance adding two hits and an RBI, and Flowers contributing two hits and an RBI. Hayes also recorded two hits, while Brown reached base multiple times in the effort.

On the mound, Chase Chappell delivered a solid start, working six innings and allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out five. Aaron Holley followed with two innings of relief before Sam Johnson and Drake Hobgood closed out the game.
