Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Guilford on Wednesday afternoon at Bauer Field, using timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to secure the win. The Battling Bishops limited Guilford to just one run on six hits while capitalizing on key scoring opportunities late in the game.
After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, Wesleyan responded immediately in the bottom half. Maison Nance doubled to start the rally before Banks Hartman followed with an RBI double to tie the game. Kyle Brazaeu moved Hartman over with a sacrifice bunt, and Brady Williams delivered a sacrifice fly to give the Bishops a 2-1 lead.
The game remained tight into the late innings as both pitching staffs held firm. Wesleyan added an insurance run in the eighth when Schumata Brown doubled and later scored on another RBI double from Hartman, extending the lead to 3-1.
On the mound, Tyler Jumper got the start and kept the Bishops in the game before Jackson Pavone took over and earned the win with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Drake Hobgood bridged the gap in the eighth, and Aaron Holley closed the door in the ninth to secure the save. Offensively, Hartman led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Nance and Brown each added extra-base hits as the Bishops executed in key moments to claim the victory.
