Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball hosted Pfeiffer on Saturday afternoon at Edge Field for an Alumni Day doubleheader, playing in front of a large and energetic crowd. The Battling Bishops battled in two tightly contested games, falling 3-1 in the opener before bouncing back to earn a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.
In game one, Wesleyan kept things close behind a complete-game effort from Kendall Wallace, who allowed just three runs on nine hits across seven innings. Pfeiffer struck early with two runs in the first and added another in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. The Bishops broke through in the fourth inning when Savannah Bain singled and later came around to score on an RBI fielder's choice from Vivian Lloyd to cut the deficit to 3-1. Wesleyan finished with three hits in the contest, with Bain, Wallace, and Caleigh Warf each recording one. Despite putting runners on in the later innings, the Bishops were unable to complete the comeback.
In the second game, Wesleyan responded with a strong defensive and pitching performance to secure the shutout win. The Bishops took an early lead in the first inning when Kyiah Simmons reached and Kayla Simmons followed with a two-run home run to put Wesleyan ahead 2-0. That would be all the run support needed for Ava Strickland, who was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits. The Bishops added pressure throughout the game with timely baserunning and solid contact, finishing with four hits. Ragan Holloman and Brooke Markiewicz each recorded hits, while the defense turned key plays to keep Pfeiffer off the scoreboard.
The split capped off a competitive Alumni Day at Edge Field, as Wesleyan showcased resilience and strong pitching in front of a great home crowd.
