Greensboro, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan softball earned a conference doubleheader sweep over Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at Barber Park, taking game one 5-2 before securing a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Battling Bishops used patience at the plate and timely hitting to pull away late for the 5-2 win. Wesleyan struck first in the opening inning when Kendall Wallace drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run. After Greensboro evened the score, the Bishops regained the lead in the second as Brooke Markiewicz doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Ragan Holloman. The game remained tight until the sixth inning when Wesleyan capitalized on defensive miscues, scoring three runs to break it open. Kyiah Simmons reached on an error that allowed multiple runs to score, giving the Bishops a 5-1 advantage. Wallace was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out six to earn the win.
Wesleyan completed the sweep in game two behind strong pitching and efficient offense, earning a 3-1 victory. The Bishops plated two runs in the second inning when Ava Strickland drove in a run with a groundout and Caleigh Warf followed with an RBI single. Wesleyan added another run in the fourth as Strickland helped her own cause with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0. Greensboro managed a run in the fourth, but the Bishops held firm the rest of the way. Strickland was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete game and allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out seven. Offensively, Brooke Markiewicz and Kendall Wallace each recorded multiple hits as Wesleyan totaled eight hits in the contest.
